Thanks to the many hard-working volunteers and shoppers galore, Madison Has Heart’s 3rd Annual Fanciful Flea on February 13th raised a whopping $15,000 for heating assistance for local families in need.
The preparations took months: collecting items of value from near and far; storing and restoring them until moving day; pricing, organizing and displaying everything in various market-style boutiques; and finally, opening the doors to the waiting crowd that came to support the cause.
The event featured one-of-a-kind antiques and collectibles, home baked goods, jewelry, art, crafts and vintage clothing, along with live entertainment and delectables from local eateries. The Carpenter Ants, a gospel soul band that came all the way from West Virginia to perform, captured the spirit when they sang, “Oh, Lord, I’m not tired yet!” as the crowds kept surging to find the best bargains around.
All funds raised at the Fanciful Flea were donated to Neighbors In Need, a local nonprofit that has been helping local families for 30 years. Its fuel and heating assistance program has been the focus for the past three years, since federal funds continue to fall short of the increasing demand.
There is not enough space here to thank everyone individually, but let it be said that it took an entire community of generous, warm-hearted people to make the Fanciful Flea a success. The Madison Has Heart team couldn’t be more pleased with and proud of how many local people were involved – from start to finish – to help keep our neighbors warm.
